DSP Mandeep Kaur clarifies Nabha clash, alleges misbehaviour during protest

Patiala: Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mandeep Kaur, who came into the spotlight after the September 22 clash between farmers and police in Nabha, has clarified the controversy, saying the police did not remove the turban of any farmer and that miscreants disguised as protesters created the chaos.

“The video clips were misrepresented. Goons had entered the dharna posing as farmers. I was even touched inappropriately from behind,” she said, adding that she was deeply hurt by the incident.

Farmers had staged a protest outside her office over the issue of missing tractor trolleys during the Shambhu Morcha. The demonstration turned violent, leading to a scuffle between farmers and police. While Mandeep Kaur alleged misbehaviour by some protesters, farmer leader Gamdoor Singh accused the officer of misbehaving with them and even tearing their clothes.

“You can’t feel what a woman had to endure at that moment. I even had tears in my eyes,” DSP Kaur said.
