Gurdaspur: A medical store owner was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Wednesday morning in Dera Baba Nanak, police said.
The incident took place around 8 am when the victim, identified as Ranbir Singh Bedi, was opening his shop, Bedi Medical Store. According to preliminary information, the attackers opened fire at close range and fled the spot immediately after the shooting.
Bedi sustained gunshot injuries to the head and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Due to his critical condition, he was referred to Amritsar for advanced treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries while being taken there, police said.
Senior police officials reached the spot soon after receiving information and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to identify the attackers and reconstruct the sequence of events.
Police said they are probing multiple angles, including the possibility of extortion or targeted killing. No arrests have been made so far, and further investigation is underway.
