Mohali: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced that Group C and Group D government employees in the state will be posted within a 40-kilometre radius of their homes under a new policy aimed at improving employee welfare and work-life balance.

Addressing a gathering in Mohali, the Chief Minister said the government is preparing a framework to ensure that employees in these categories are not required to serve beyond the prescribed distance from their residences.

Mann said the objective is to enable employees to return home shortly after completing their duties and spend more time with their families. The proposed policy is expected to be formally announced in the coming days.

According to the Chief Minister, the initiative will cover employees from several departments, including education, health, police and other government services falling under Group C and Group D categories.

He further stated that unmarried women employees would be given postings within a 40-kilometre radius of their parental homes, while married women would be considered for postings near their matrimonial homes. The distance could be significantly shorter depending on the availability of vacancies and administrative requirements.

The Chief Minister added that employees would become eligible for the benefit after completing their three-year probation period.

Mann made the announcement while distributing appointment letters to 523 newly recruited employees of the Health Department at Vikas Bhawan in Phase 8, Mohali.

The state government said the proposed measure is intended to improve employee satisfaction and strengthen the delivery of public services by reducing long-distance commuting for frontline staff.
