Chandigarh: Punjab Cabinet Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president Aman Arora on Thursday said that no one involved in Punjab’s drug trade will be spared, asserting that the seven-day police remand of senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia underlines the need for a thorough investigation.

Addressing media persons at Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh, Arora said that the case registered against Majithia has revealed unaccounted transactions worth ₹540 crore. “Out of this, ₹161 crore remains unaccounted, and ₹141 crore is suspected to have come from foreign countries,” he said.

He accused the Congress, SAD, and BJP of allowing the drug trade to flourish in Punjab. “These parties have not only failed to act against smugglers but have also patronised them. They are responsible for turning Punjab into a sixth river of drugs,” Arora added.

The AAP leader also pointed to the transfer of senior Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer Niranjan Singh, who was investigating a major drug smuggling case in Punjab.

He claimed that the officer’s transfer by the BJP-led government raises questions about political interference in the probe.
