New Delhi: BJP national general secretary Arun Singh was attending an event in Lucknow when he received a phone call from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. According to sources in the party’s national office, Shah told Singh that the name of the party’s new national working president had been finalised and asked him to issue an official letter in the name of Nitin Nabeen.
Sources said the letter was prepared within the next hour and circulated across the party and organisational ranks. The BJP formally announced Nitin Nabeen as its new working president on December 14.
JP Nadda has been serving as the BJP’s national president since 2020. His term ended in 2024, after which he continued on extensions.
Party sources said Arun Singh was the first leader informed about the decision. They added that before Shah’s call, there was no indication within the organisation that Nitin Nabeen’s name had been finalised for the post.
