New Delhi: At least 15 people were killed and 20 others injured after a bus plunged into a deep gorge in Udhampur district on Monday morning.
The accident occurred around 10 am near Kogot village in the Ramnagar area, reportedly at a sharp blind turn. Officials said the bus was travelling from a remote village towards Udhampur when the driver lost control.
Local residents were the first to reach the spot and began rescue operations, pulling out injured passengers from the wreckage. Police and emergency teams soon joined the effort to evacuate victims and clear the site.
Authorities confirmed that 15 bodies have been recovered from the debris, while the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals. Several of the injured are stated to be in critical condition.
Rescue operations continued for hours as teams worked in difficult terrain to ensure no passengers were left trapped in the mangled vehicle.
