Chandigarh: Tensions escalated in Jalandhar as youth wing workers of the Aam Aadmi Party staged protests against seven Rajya Sabha MPs who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Protesters gathered outside the residence of former MP Harbhajan Singh, raising slogans and writing “traitor” on the walls of his house. Demonstrators also held a protest outside Lovely Professional University against Ashok Mittal and burned his effigy.
Workers accuse leaders of betrayal
AAP workers alleged that leaders including Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, Harbhajan Singh and Ashok Mittal had “betrayed” the party by switching sides.
During the protest, workers wore black bands on their heads and raised slogans against the defecting MPs. Police personnel were present at the scene, and minor scuffles were reported when officers attempted to control the crowd.
The protests highlight growing anger within AAP ranks following the high-profile political defections.
