Washington: A major security scare unfolded during the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington D.C. as gunfire was reported outside the venue, prompting swift evacuation of Donald Trump and other top officials.
The incident occurred at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where hundreds of journalists and guests had gathered for the high-profile event.
Chaos after shots fired
According to security officials, a suspected attacker opened fire outside the ballroom, triggering panic inside the hall. Guests reportedly screamed and took cover under tables as the situation unfolded.
The United States Secret Service immediately escorted Trump to a secure location. While the president was unharmed, he reportedly stumbled briefly during the evacuation before being assisted by agents.
Police officer injured, attack under probe
A police officer was hit during the incident but survived due to wearing a bulletproof vest. Authorities quickly sealed off the area and launched a full-scale investigation.
Eyewitnesses said chants of “God Bless America” were heard as officials moved the president to safety.
Event cancelled amid security concerns
