    Punjab E News: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Patwari Harkinder Singh posted at Revenue Office Payal district Ludhiana, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000/-.

    Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of tehsil Payal district Ludhiana.

    He said that the accused Patwari demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000/- from the complainant in lieu of making correction in mutation of the complainant’s land. In this connection, accused Patwari has already taken first installment of Rs 5000/- as bribe.

    Unwilling to pay any illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau Economic Offence Wing Ludhiana. After a preliminary enquiry on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused Patwari was arrested red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 15,000/- from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.

    In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Economic Offence Wing Ludhiana and further investigation into this case is under progress.

    Chandigarh News (April 16, 2026): The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), in line with the zero tolerance policy adopted by the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab government, has apprehended Kanungo Raman Kumar posted at Circle Kathgarh, tehsil Balachaur, district SBS Nagar for accepting a bribe Rs. 33,000/-.

    Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the arrest has been made following a complaint lodged by a resident of SBS Nagar on the Chief Minister’s Anti Corruption Action Line portal.

    During the verification of this complaint, it was found that the Hon’ble Court had ordered demarcation of the complainant’s land, which was assigned to the accused Raman Kumar. He termed the work as complicated and demanded Rs. 80,000/- as bribe. Out of this, Rs. 33,000/- (Rs. 15,000/- cash and Rs. 18,000/- through online/QR codes) was taken as bribe from the complainant.
    Audio recording pertaining to the bribe, along with online transaction details and other relevant evidence is available.

    In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB Police Station Jalandhar. Further investigation into this case is underway, he added.

    Chandigarh: A shocking incident has surfaced from near Dhanaula, where a man was allegedly killed by his younger brother using a tractor in a dispute over money and farmland.

    The deceased has been identified as Manjinder Singh (50), while the accused, Sukhwinder Singh (45), is currently absconding.

    According to police and family members, the brothers had been in conflict for the past four days over nearly ₹1 lakh and a tree standing in their field.

    The incident occurred when Manjinder Singh was on his way to arrange a combine harvester for wheat harvesting. His wife, Paramjit Kaur, alleged that Sukhwinder Singh came from behind and ran a Swaraj tractor over him multiple times.

    She further claimed that when she rushed out on hearing screams and tried to save her husband, the accused also attempted to run the tractor over her.

    Manjinder Singh died on the spot due to the brutal attack.

    The victim is survived by his wife and a 26-year-old son, who is currently living abroad.

    Police Station SHO Gurvinder Singh said a case has been registered and efforts are underway to arrest the accused.

    Toronto: A Punjabi-origin radio host in Canada has been sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison by the Supreme Court of British Columbia in a major drug trafficking case.

    The convict, Sukhwinder Kaur Sangha (47), was arrested with methamphetamine worth around ₹83 crore. Despite denying involvement in court, investigators presented mobile text messages that revealed she was an active and willing participant in the trafficking operation and a trusted member of the network.

    Originally linked to Nakodar in Jalandhar, Sangha was born in Prince George, Canada, and had built a strong presence in Punjabi radio over the past decade. She worked as a freelance radio and TV host and was a well-known figure in the Punjabi community, often hosting prominent guests including politicians and public figures.

    The arrest dates back to October 2021, when Sangha was entering Canada from the US in a rental car with Florida number plates. At a border checkpoint in Surrey, officials from the Canada Border Services Agency referred her for secondary inspection.

    Instead of cooperating, she fled the checkpoint at high speed, triggering a police chase. She was eventually apprehended on 16 Avenue in Surrey.

    A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of four duffel bags containing 108 kilograms of methamphetamine, shocking investigators due to the scale of the seizure.

    Chandigarh: A shocking incident has emerged from Faridkot, where a woman ASI of Punjab Police allegedly tied her 5-year-old granddaughter to a gate and left her in the sun for hours as punishment.

    The accused, ASI Sarabjit Kaur, reportedly took the extreme step after the child did not obey her. A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the child crying in distress with her hands and legs tied.

    Following the outrage, SSP Dr Prajna Jain ordered immediate suspension of the officer. Sarabjit Kaur was posted as a “Mahila Mitra” at Sadar police station.

    The case has been referred to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), which has recommended registration of an FIR against the accused.

    In her statement after the action, the ASI admitted her mistake, claiming she had been under stress for several days.

    According to eyewitnesses, neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing the child’s cries and untied her. The girl, in tears, said her grandmother had beaten and tied her, adding that she just wanted to go to her mother.

    Kamal Kaur Bhabhi murder case: Main accused Amritpal Mehro remanded to judicial custody till April 29

    Chandigarh: A Bathinda court has sent Amritpal Singh Mehro, the main accused in the murder of social media influencer Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, to judicial custody till April 29.

    Mehro was produced in court after the completion of his five-day police remand.

    According to officials, the accused had allegedly fled to the UAE after the murder in June last year. He was later deported and brought back to India on April 10.

    During the hearing, police sought permission to collect his voice sample and conduct an identification parade, but the court rejected both requests.

    Station House Officer Sub-Inspector Raghveer Singh said that recovery of the victim’s phone and identification of an unknown accused remain part of the ongoing investigation, but declined to share further details.

    Interestingly, the police did not seek further custody of the accused. Sources said three mobile phones recovered from Mehro have been sent to a forensic science laboratory for data recovery as part of the probe.

    Chandigarh News (April 13, 2026): The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Seed Certification Officer Amritpal Singh posted at Punjab State Seed Certification Authority Ludhiana, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000/-.

    Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of Ward No. 10 of district Mansa.

    He said that the complainant is a seed producer who runs M/s Punjab Agri Seed Farm, in Mansa. The work of his firm is to obtain breeder seeds (first-type sowing seeds) from agricultural universities in Punjab or outside the state of Punjab and make seeds from purchased crops. Our firm had sown wheat seeds in about 510 hectares (1275 acres) of land through various universities and foundation seed sources. The responsibility of inspecting these crop lies with accused Amritpal Singh, Seed Certification Officer.

    In this regard, aforesaid accused came to our farm about 10 days ago for the inspection of our sown crop and asked to show the sown fields. Complainant alleged that accused demanded a bribe Rs. 200/- per hectare (510*200 = Rs. 102000/-) in lieu of making inspection report favorable of sowing crops. Complainant had recorded the entire conversation of demanding bribe.

    Unwilling to pay any illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau range Bathinda. After a preliminary enquiry on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused Seed Certification Officer was arrested red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 50,000/- from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.

    In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Bathinda and further investigation into this case is under progress.

    Amritsar News (April 13): In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Rural Police, in a joint operation with District Faridkot Police and Counter Intelligence Ferozepur, has successfully solved the grenade attack case at Police Station Bhindi Saida with the arrest of six accused persons and recovered two pistols from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday.

    Those arrested have been identified as Baljit Singh, a resident of village Chak Dogra in Amritsar; Prabh Singh, a resident of Chota Fatehwal in Amritsar; Rajbir Singh, a resident of Baba Gum Chak Ballarwal in Amritsar; Sukhpreet Singh, a resident of Thehra Rajputan in Amritsar; Ajaydeep Singh alias Ajay alias Gazni, a resident of Lopoke in Amritsar; and Sahib Singh alias Saba, a resident of Sarangdev in Amritsar.

    DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the module was backed by Pakistan’s ISI. The accused were in contact with a Pak-based handler operating from abroad, who was directing terror activities in Punjab, he said.

    The DGP said that the module had been radicalised and motivated to target police establishments, with promises of substantial financial rewards for executing the attack.

    Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Border Range Sandeep Goel said that during investigation, it has come to light that accused Baljit Singh and Prabh Singh had retrieved two hand grenades from a location near Gharinda. Investigations have also revealed that the accused were promised a large amount of money, but eventually only a paltry amount of money was given by the Pakistani handler for carrying out the attack, he said.

    Sharing operational details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Faridkot Dr Pragya Jain said that in an intelligence led operation with Amritsar Rural Police, police teams arrested the two accused persons involved in the PS Bhindi Saida grenade attack case from Faridkot. Later, during investigations, four more have been arrested from Amritsar, she said.

    Sharing more details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Suhail Qasim Mir said that on the day of the incident, all three accused—Baljit Singh, Prabh Singh and Rajbir Singh—proceeded towards Police Station Bhindi Saida on a motorcycle. They parked their motorcycle approximately 1-2 kilometres away from the police station in nearby fields and approached the rear side of the police station on foot through agricultural fields, he said.

    He further said that accused Baljit Singh and Prabh Singh hurled hand grenades at the police station, while accused Rajbir Singh recorded the entire incident. After executing the attack, the accused again moved through the fields and remained concealed in wheat crops for approximately three to four hours, he added.

    The SSP added that the accused later disposed off their clothes in a drain nearly one kilometre from the police station to destroy evidence and at around 5 AM retrieved their motorcycle and fled from the spot.

    In this regard, a case FIR no. 56 dated 30.03.2026 under sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act; sections 13, 16, 18 and 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act; sections 109, 61(1), 61(2), 3 (5) and 324 (4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS); and section 25 of the Arms Act had been registered at the Police Station Bhindi Saida.

    Mohali family duped of ₹9.5 lakh in fake Armenia work visa scam

    Chandigarh: A Mohali-based family has alleged that a Ludhiana immigration agent duped them of ₹9.5 lakh on the pretext of sending their son abroad on a work visa.

    According to the complaint, the accused lured the family with promises of arranging an Armenia work visa, including e-visa processing and flight tickets, but later turned out to be fraudulent.

    Following a complaint to the Additional Deputy Director of the NRI Wing, Punjab Police registered a case against the accused, identified as Harpal Singh, who runs an immigration firm in Ludhiana. The case has been filed under charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust, and Section 24 of the Immigration Act.

    Complainant Inderjit Singh said he initially approached the agent to send his son Parmeet to Romania. The accused assured that the visa would be arranged within a month and took ₹50,000 to start the process.

    Later, the agent claimed to have secured an Armenia e-visa but did not provide complete documents. He demanded further payments, after which ₹1 lakh was transferred on August 4, 2025, and another ₹1.5 lakh was handed over in cash during a visit to Mohali.

    The family alleged that the accused falsely claimed tickets had been booked for August 10 as the visa was expiring on August 15. However, no ticket was issued and no travel arrangements were made.

    When the family demanded a refund, the accused allegedly began abusing them and issued threats.

    Police have initiated an investigation into the case.
